Program Note
Eleven-year-old Lilli can talk with animals - an ability that is both a blessing and a curse, and which must be kept a secret from everyone other than her parents. When Lilli causes trouble at her mother’s work, the family must move yet again. Lilli swears that she will keep her secret this time, but soon learns that someone is stealing young animals from the local zoo. After much hesitation, she finally decides to reveal her secret to new friend Jess and the two embark on a rescue mission to save the animals. In this film that stirs our imagination from the outset, almost everyone, especially the adults, are unrealistic oddballs, but it is still a lovely story about bravery and unity. It was warmly received by the young audience at Italy’s Giffoni International Film Festival. (Huh Kyoung)
