As an executive of a meat processing company, Antonio seems to have it all: a stable job, a beautiful house and happy family. All this comes crashing down when he learns he will lose his life unless he has a kidney transplant. The waiting list for a kidney transplant is extremely long, and his son refuses to help even though he is a match. Antonio decides to find a kidney on the black market and finds a young couple with a kidney to sell. Soon, though, their demands start multiplying, and Antonio and his family fall into an endless trap. Animal is the second feature film by Armando Bo, who won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for Birdman (2014). The story about a man who has given his all to his family, but ends up being abandoned by everyone completely shatters the middle-class illusion of “home sweet home.” In the end, Antonio is worth less than a frozen piece of meat. The driving force behind the film is one of Argentina’s leading actors, Guillermo Francella. (Jin Park)
