Best known for Three Idiots and <I>PK</I> in Korea, director Rajikumar Hirani is one of the few figures respected and recognized by both critics and the public at the Indian box office, typically dominated by commercial Bollywood films. Sanju is a biographical movie about actor Sanjay Dutt, who has led a more dramatic life than any movie, falling from a brilliant star in the Indian film industry to possible terrorist. He started acting under the influence of his father, who was a director, and became a movie star. But he was jailed for allegedly engaging in the 1992 Mumbai terror attacks. Like the fate of a biographical film dealing with a person loved or hated, the film stirred a variety of controversies, including that it glorified Sanjay Dutt, along with the good reviews at the time of its release. In Busan Classics at BIFF this year, Hirani′s debut film, Munna Bhai, M.B.B.S. will be screening. Audiences will be amused to notice the lead actor of the film is Sanjay Dutt, the real main character of Sanju. (Kim Young-Woo)
