Program Note
Ireesha is just an ordinary high schooler dreaming of becoming a famous singer. One day she witnesses her friend Jinseok die in a car accident and his soul stolen by an unknown figure. While she struggles with guilt, a talking frog appears. It grows to human size, donning Ireesha’s clothes, and leads her to the elf world. There she meets guitar elf Roby, who tells her darkness has befallen the fairy kingdom due to the Elf-king, who also stole Jinseok’s soul and cast a spell on Ireesha. She must break the curse in order to save Jinseok’s soul. So begins Ireesha’s quest with her two fairy friends. Director Chang Hyung Yun returns with his first feature in five years, Ireesha, The Daughter of Elf-king. Graduating from Korean Academy of Film Arts, he is loved for his unique imagination and characteristic lyricism in short films such as The Letter, Wolf Daddy, A Coffee Vending Machine and It’s Sword and feature film The Satellite Girl and Milk Cow. While his imagination is prodigious, his characters remain very natural and as quirky and lovable as ever. (Huh Kyoung)
