Program Note
In a city in southern China, there has been no rain during the summer. A girl taking a summer vacation is struggling with essay homework, but she has no idea about what to write. Her mother’s ordinary routine is to nag at her idle daughter. One day, a relative′s aunt, whom she has not seen for a long time, visits them and an unknown tension grows in their repetitive daily lives. The aunt tells people amazing stories that happened in the past, but people don′t listen to her, they only worry about the rainless weather. Zhu Xin, a former art school graduate who has no other film experience, planned this work to be made into a super low budget film since he was a college student. Unlike many debut films that work hard to share the plot, this movie shows the bold aspect of a director who placed the visual and audio components from the beginning, and equipped with unique cinematic expressions and rhythms added the storyline to them.
