As the media focuses on her and the defense strategy is meticulously prepared, Dolores and her family live in constant tension. As the trial progresses, her innocence becomes all the more suspect. This plot summary makes it seem like The Accused is a legal thriller about a girl implicated in a horrible crime, but in fact, it isn’t about exposing the truth of whether she is the killer. Rather it is about how the ‘story’ to win the trial is fabricated, the social discursive apparatus like the media and legal strategy that do the construction, and the psychological change undergone by Dolores and her family as they struggle to break through the truth, which is only constructed.
