Program Note
Sudhir had a brilliant career as an actor, though mostly in supporting roles or as the villain. Still, he boasted of having famous lines and fancy action scenes on his resume. Now, he is old and raggedy without much to live for. Then one day, he looks up his filmography on the IMDB website and realizes that he was in 499 films. To his surprise, one young film buff remembers Sudhir’s past roles, and he really wants a round 500 films. He puts on a wig, dresses up, and heads over to the filming site. The film is a comedy about an actor making his 500th film, but on the other hand it is also a pathos-filled drama about a man looking back on his life and understanding the role of a real adult. Like Charlie Chaplin’s Limelight, the stage is the background and the character reflects his own life. When the moment of glory is gone and a new generation stands in your place, becoming old is not something to cry over, but to embrace and enjoy. (Jeong Minah)
