Program Note
Fahrenheit 11/9 is a 2018 American political documentary by one of its most controversial filmmakers: Michael Moore. The documentary explores two questions: How the United States progressed to the Trump presidency, and how to “get out” of the Trump era. The distributor describes the film as “a provocative and comedic look at the times in which we live,” referring to the 2016 United States presidential election and the subsequent presidency of Donald Trump. The documentary’s original funding was intended to come in part from Harvey and Bob Weinstein before the Harvey Weinstein sexual abuse allegations emerged, resulting in a temporary shutdown. Production resumed with private funding. Fahrenheit 11/9 made its world premiere on September 6, 2018 at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival and was released in theaters in the United States on September 21, 2018.
