Program Note
Franky Winter and Ballas Kohl are high school royalty: handsome, stars of the swim team and popular with girls. They live the perfect teenage life—until the night of Franky’s epic 17th birthday party, when Franky and Ballas, both wasted, surprise each other by getting intimate. Sensitive Franky is open to having a range of desires and experiences, but alpha male Ballas feels much more threatened. Soon the story is public and the two friends, the kids, the school and the parents all find themselves dealing with the fallout. Giant Little Ones is a heartfelt and intimate coming-of-age story about friendship, self-discovery and the power of love without labels. Well-thought-out direction from Keith Behrman with an intriguing yet very plausible story makes Giant Little Ones one of the best independent films from Canada this year. Written and directed by Keith Behrman, Giant Little Ones is his second feature and premiered in Toronto this year.
