Program Note
Reza is a gold runner who delivers gold pieces after work to retailers. Delivering the gold as usual one day, a group of gangs hit him and steal the gold pieces. The owner of the retail business demands paying back, but Reza has no way to pay him back. Hearing from his friend Louie that there is an expensive jewelry somewhere on the floor of a traditional toilet in the workshop, Reza uses the money from the aid group to bid on the workshop at an auction. Mobilizing a night cart, he searches for the gem.
With unique materials, impressive characters, and the story flowing at great speed, the film betrays the expectations the audience has about Iranian cinema. Unlike the Iran we know from foreign media, the Tehran of this movie is no different from any other metropolis—full of human greed, conflict and materialism. Although it is the director′s second production, the film′s perfection and skill were naturally learned through collaboration with the great Iranian directors as a long time cinematographer, including filming Bahman Ghobadi’s Rhino Season.
