Program Note
Through no fault of his own, things go terribly wrong for an innocent cop. Wu Jitang works at a local police station, often going above and beyond the call of duty to help those who live in his precinct. He is clean-living and honest. All should be right in the world, right? Wrong. Captain Li, his superior, thinks that Wu neglects his duties and disapproves of his over-helpfulness. Wu also fails to prevent his daughter from being victimized, and his wife complains that there′s not much point in him being a policeman if he can′t even help his own flesh and blood. His situation worsens when a woman criminal involved in a murder case accuses him of rape, and he is suspended from work. Captain Li files a complaint against him to a disciplinary committee and he is interrogated under a cloud of suspicion. After all his efforts to be a good cop, Wu can′t believe his misfortune. Nevertheless, the policeman in him springs into action during an attempted robbery and he is seriously wounded during the ensuing struggle. Will justice be alone?
