Program Note
Changfeng is a small town, hidden deep in the mountains. This remote town is home to a movie theater, a dentist’s office, a car repair shop, several small stores, and a lonely elementary school. The town’s residents are peculiar and eccentric, as though each has a story that they prefer to keep to themselves. The intermingled stories of a love triangle involving the theater ticket seller Cai-xia, a peculiar dentist’s family who moved to the town from a city, disabled Xi-shan, and the Redhead who left for the city are told in five chapters through the eyes of the village boys. The warm colors on the screen, coupled with the joys and sorrows of the residents of Changfeng Town, who seem to lead their lives in peace and contentment, gently evoke nostalgia and longing for our hometowns and childhood that have been long forgotten. This film is a recipient of the Busan International Film Festival’s Asian Cinema Fund for script development in 2016. (CHAE Bohyun)
