Director HAN Taeee lives with her mother in her paternal grandfather’s old apartment. Actually, from HAN’s perspective, her mother is still taking care of her father-in-law even though her husband passed away 12 years ago. HAN feels sorry for her mother. Her mother’s marriage was far from a happy one, and even though that was now over, she has never even imagined a life aside from the one full of devotion and sacrifice for family. Then, one day, HAN’s mother is half-forced into an independent life that her daughter so wished her to have when HAN’s grandfather unexpectedly tells her to move out because of their differences in lifestyle. HAN’s mother begins to look for an apartment, and HAN follows her mother with a camera. Welcome to X-World is a family documentary about a mother and daughter’s bond and hardships as they begin to stand on their own. The soft-hearted and shy mother and the brave and individualistic daughter strive to make each other’s life a little better. Sometimes, their roles as a mother and daughter seem reversed. As though their lives were recorded without their awareness of their being filmed, the mother and daughter are affectionate and loveable in every scene.
