Program Note
Mohsen Makhmalbaf′s cinematic vision is that a film should escape the privilege of class. This 40-minute video reflects this notion. Working with Shahaboddin Farokh-Yar, who helped him filming his previous work, The Silence, this film is impressive with satire and experiment. Farokh-Yar is a writer who never experience making a film, but the small camcorder brought by him becomes enough to create a film with Mohsen. In the midst of filming The Door, the two capture the actual event of the general election. Here, there is no restriction whatsoever. There is no limitation of budget or censorship, only their free thoughts. ′Liberty,′ Mohsen spells out with his camera is thus significant. (Kim Ji-Seok)
