Excited by the dealer’s remark that the jeep used to speed across the vast plains of Inner Mongolia, Kun (a film school student in Shanghai) spends all his money on a secondhand jeep. Kun’s girlfriend Zhi studies Chinese literature and works as a racing model to earn money to go to Hong Kong. Kun who dreams of racing across the grasslands, Zhi who longs to visit Disneyland, filmmakers Ming and Feng who dream of making “art” like Hong Sang-soo and Wong Kar-wai, but begrudge paying actors and feeding the crew, and a rookie film studies professor are the characters in Striding into the Wind. Will they be able to realize their dreams despite the contradictions between ideals and reality? (CHOI Eun)

WEI Shujun
Wei Shujun was born in Beijing and began acting in films and TV dramas when he was 14. He graduated from Communication University of China, majoring in Directing and Sound Engineering. He directed the lab documentary such as Said in the Forbidden City (2011) and Hancheng Color (2013). His graduate short On the Border (2018) was awarded at the Cannes Film Festival and his first feature Duck Neck (2016) was invited to A Window on Asian Cinema at the Busan International Film Festival. Striding into the Wind is the selection of the Cannes 2020.
