The events take place in Turkmenistan, the former Soviet republic, now an independent state in Central Asia. The main character of the film is a young man who loves cinema. He forgets socialist reality when watching the films with his beloved - "the filmstar," the actress with whom he fell in love. His mother calls him Chocha ( it means “a camel′s baby"). Chocha lives in his world far from reality with it′s dusty village, small market, and poor tea-house at the outskirts. Life in this real world is dull, therefore the visit of strange Gipsy to the settlement becomes an interesting event for the villagers. The word "aroma" conjures up something idyllic, yet the film shows precisely the opposite. We see the contrast between stern real life and dreams. In his dream Chocha meets his diva Katrine and becomes an actor on the screen. From then on, the cinema totally triumphs over the daily grind. (Saida Tursunova)
