Program Note
Sadyk, an old man, wakes with a premonition about death. It makes him remember his long life, and these reminiscences are the sequences of the story. The moment when life comes to its end, our film ends too. His parents died very early and left him an orphan. He is raised by his elder brother Noker. Noker supports the Soviet regime from its beginning, and becomes the chief of collective farm. On the contrary Sadyk ignores the political events and dreams of a world of warmth and happiness with his beloved. During the Stalin years, when those branded opponents of the government are executed and imprisoned, Noker is forced to support the accusation that his brother Sadyk is an enemy of nation. 20 years later, released from camp, Sadyk cannot forget his brother′s betrayal. Sadyk becomes a shephard and leaves the village for the desert to be far from his brother. It is a blow not only to Noker but to Sadyk′s wife whom he abandons. Sadyk refuseds to visit his dying brother who hopes to see his brother and ask for forgiveness. Where is the line that marks the border of moral and immoral deeds in the conflict between natural human feelings and principles? According to what moral rules should the person live by and become true human being? The authors of this film tries to answer these questions. (Saida Tursunova)
