Program Note
Director Mitra Farahani recorded the correspondence between French-
Swiss director Jean-Luc Godard and Iranian writer and director Ebrahim
Golestan. The 91-year-old director lives in Rolle, Switzerland and the
100-year-old Iranian literary figure lives in a mansion in Sussex, England. For
twenty-nine weeks, every Friday they take part in a philosophical dialogue
consisting of writings, paintings, scenes from movies, and videos. Like the
difference between ‘langue’ in French and ‘language’ in English, the themes
they discuss are serious and profound, but their conversations are often light
and playful thanks to Godard′s enigmatic texts and humorous selfies. Despite
their advanced ages, their meeting fascinates us thanks to the young and
lively thoughts and keen insights of the two masters. The three great artists
constantly question the power of words and images, making See You Friday,
Robinson a collaborative work of art. (SEO Seunghee)
