Program Note
A mockumentary is about the desperate hope of a veteran yet unknown actress over 30 years of career mostly taking bit parts as a ghost or witch in horror flicks. When Lilia Cuntapay finally has a chance to make her face recognizable to the public with her nomination as a supporting actress, a documentary director Antoinette Jadaone shows up to follow her life as an actress and person. However, when Lilia doesn’t get the award and falls into the great disappointment, Jadaone decides to turn her simple documenting into a full documentary to cheer her up. In this film, Lilia leads a shabby life struggling with money like her poor neighbors do. She appears in movies for money not for the fame or pride of being an actress. Yet she has worked with the great masters of the Philippines and had an enormous body of filmography. Indeed, she is certainly a part of Pinoy film history. When Jadaone’s film made out of pity for Lilia is screened to public, a small miracle happens. Lilia finally has a chance to read her acceptance speech she carefully prepared for her award ceremony. It is indeed a moment expected yet heartwarming nonetheless. (KIM Ji-Seok)
