Against the Tide follows the lives of two friends who work as fishermen in Mumbai. It is a film filled with tender, incisive, and poignant moments. Trawling in shallow waters using traditional methods of the Koli community, Rakesh builds a most family life but is burdened by the illness of his infant son. His friend Ganesh uses more modern methods of deep-sea fishing, but financial strain drives him to consider expanding the business more than he might be able to handle. Although they have been inseparable friends, their differing professional values lead them onto separate paths. Through meticulous planning, intricate structure, and detailed documentation, this film encapsulates the twists and turns in the lives of the two friends, along with the rapidly changing natural environment, and the enduring power and beauty of nature in a single breath.
