The scent of people are brought in with the smell of the sea. Jin-Ah settles down in an inn enclosed in a blue gate near the sea. Hae-Mi, the daughter of the inn owner despises Jin′Ahn, who sells her body to customers. To Jin-Ah, however, the sick customers who make her life hell are not different the father who violated her. Hae-Mi′s disgust is exacerbated with the visit of her boyfriend. However Hae-Mi comes to understand Jin-Ah who in turn melts her resistance towards sex. The kind care she bestows on Jin-Ah after the other girl fails at an attempted suicide deepens their friendship. Then one snowy night, Hae-Mi offers herself to a stranger when Jin-Ah is sick, and this becomes a moment when her supressed emotions becoeme sublimated. While reconciliation through the exchange of sex may be controversial, it also poses the danger of crossing the line. While the director′s efforts are worthwhile, the masculinity the film conveys can be considered a shortcoming. The sadness of the sea, Shu Jung-Min′s cinematography and Lee Jee-Eun′s performance make the film a must-see. (Kwong Yong-Min)
