Program Note
Eun-sim (Na Moon-hee), at the age of eighty, has returned to her hometown after more than sixty years. She is relieved to spend some time with her old friends Geum-soon (Kim Yeong-ok) and Tae-ho (Park Keun-hyong), who, unlike her, are still living in their hometown. At an age when death is closer than life, there is not a single part that does not hurt in her body, but she feels that she has lived well enough. Picnic begins with the concerns of life that no one can avoid: age, illness, care, dignified life and death. Eun-sim and her friends each has his or her own past to deal with, but their focus is on embracing the time to come rather than untangling the jams of the past. This is how their picnic begins, as they want to live as themselves without losing their self-respect until the end. It’s a pleasure to watch the unassuming and unpretentious acting ensemble of Na Moon-hee, Kim Yeong-ok, and Park Keun-hyong, who are the same age as their characters. (JEONG Jihye)
