Directed by Seifollah Samadian, a long-time friend of Abbas Kiarostami who had worked on Kiarostami’s films as a cinematographer, Kiarostami at Work is a film that conveys Samadian’s genuine friendship and deep respect for Kiarostami. It features glimpses of Kiarostami in everyday life and his passionate work process, interviews with Juliette Binoche, Jonathan Rosenbaum, and Gilles Jacob, as well as scenes from Kiarostami’s films. However, the film does not attempt to chronicle Kiarostami’s life or assess his contribution to the history of cinema. Instead, Samadian has crafted a cinematic experience of embarking on a humble yet marvelous journey with Kiarostami, capturing the director’s honest and simple demeanor, his identity as an artist, and the indelible mark he has left on us.
