Program Note
Lala, a young diving athlete, meets with Yudhis, a handsome transfer student. Although the film’s set-up sounds like a typical teenage romance, Posesif quickly shifts gears as Lala begins to feel that Yudhis is too obsessed with her. Yudhis’s possessive behavior becomes increasingly harmful to Lala and people around her. Can love save this relationship or it is better to let go? After the success in festival circuit of Blind Pig Who Wants to Fly (2008) and Postcard from the Zoo (2012), Edwin’s third feature film, Posesif, is a mainstream film aimed at young audiences. With an impressive script by celebrated screenwriter Gina S. Noer, the film moves seamlessly from teenage romance to compelling psychological drama, unflinchingly examining toxic relationships and how a young girl finds ways to deal with and heal from such traumatic experiences.
