Program Note
Love can bloom in unexpected places. Mouly Surya’s sophomore film takes place in a whimsical school for children with disabilities. The director creates a world of a fairy tale of young love as imagined by visually impaired teens Fitri and Diana. Fitri, who has been blind since birth is obsessed with finding love and affection, while Diana, whose field of vision is limited to a space of about an inch from her eyes, is waiting to become a real woman while developing an obsession finding a guy with a certain significant perfume. The unusual narrative with snippets of small tender moments is delightful and subtle at the same time. The film was highly praised when it was world premiered at Sundance Film Festival. (John BADALU)
