A Man of Reason depicts the struggle of a man who sacrifices everything to protect his loved ones. After being released from prison after ten years, Soohyuk (Jung Woosung) discovers that he has a daughter and decides to leave the organization. However, those who try to stop him, those who want to kill him at this opportunity, and those who have been ordered to eliminate him find themselves unwittingly pitted against one another. The formula of the reformed gangster, the jealous second-in-command, and the ruthless hitman will no doubt call to mind a variety of references. To break away from this cliché, director Jung Woosung has dedicated himself to constructing complex characters. Not only Soohyuk, whom he portrays himself, but also the killer, Woojin (Kim Namgil), and the second-in-command Sungjun (Kim Junhan), add credibility to the genre story through their vivid characterizations. A Man of Reason is a genre story that drives more confidently and securely both because of its familiar themes, and because of its outstandingly suspenseful pacing. (SONG Kyung-won)
