Relationships and love don’t necessarily need dramatic obstacles. It’s more than enough to have hearts that grow closer and closer to each other. Honeysweet depicts a story of two lovely people, who meet, fill each other’s gaps, accept each other as they are, and fall in love. Chi-ho (Yoo Hai-jin), a dedicated employee at a confectionery company, has never been in a relationship. Il-young (Kim Hee-seon), a spirited single mom, has forgotten about love as she struggles with her daily life. Chi-ho and Il-young have a knack for seeing the good in others, no matter the situation, and their selflessness brings them together, allowing them to taste happiness for the first time in their lives. Just as Director Lee Han he did in his previous film, Innocent Witness, he patiently waits for the sincerity buried deep within the characters to rise to the surface, then captures their sincerity and goodwill with care. The natural performances of Yoo Hai-jin and Kim Hee-seon, without hyperbole, are also lovely. It’s a movie with a deep sweetness that serves as an antidote for those who have become desensitized to stimulation. (SONG Kyung-won)
