Program Note
The camera follows a Bosnian man, a Swiss woman and a Cuban man for many years to show how they change during this period. The three people are completely different from each other, in terms of their cultural backgrounds, nationalities and ages. However, they have one thing in common: all three want to escape from their current life. As time goes by, their destinies take an unexpected turn. The new documentary from Rolando Colla is an amazing film that patiently observes the same three people for almost a decade, from 2002 to 2011. A Bosnian shepherd living alone in a rural village, a Cuban psychiatrist, and a Swiss nurse go through great changes during this nine-year period. At the beginning of the film, the director asks the question: "What defines our lives?" The film then sets out on a challenging journey to find an answer to that question, providing the audience with an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of life. (RHEE, Soue-won)
