Program Note
Eccentric short film, “Convenience” is set at a remote gas station and tells the enigmatic tale of a very inconvenient event. Iconic Australian indie actor, David Field plays a shopkeeper who does his baffled best, to cope with a body that literally falls out of the sky. Directors Sam and Thomas McKeith play with Australian cinema’s illusion of an Anglo-Celtic monoculture, by casting an Asian male (Khanh Trieu) as the mysterious corpse. The racial resonance adds an extra dimension to this black and white sci-fi oddity that harks back to an era of genre films that Australia never had. (Russell Edwards)
