Program Note
Following on from <Son of a Lion> (BIFF 07), Benjamin Gilmour’s distinctive fiction film debut set in North Pakistan’s mountains, the Australian director has made a compelling documentary about his day job: being a paramedic. Using his Sydney ambulance worker experience as his passport, Gilmour takes his camera to Honolulu, Venice, Lahore and Mexico City to capture his international colleagues at work and play. Presented in a laidback style with a charming if slightly ridiculous lounge music soundtrack, this film will have audiences gasping with shock, laughter and sheer gratitude that such selfless people are working as paramedics. (Russell Edwards).
