<Arjun> is a grand scale animated adaption of part of the classic Indian epic「 Mahabharata」,focusing on its hero and eventual mythical icon Arjun. It is not quite a standard adventure tale, but more of a story that deals with the process of 9-year-old boy Arjun growing up to be a great warrior and hero. In the ancient Indian empire, Hastinapur, Arjun learns courage and faith and gains wisdom while training in martial arts on his way to adulthood. However, Arjun’s story is more complex than most familiar heroic tales. Arjun’s destiny is a complicated and difficult one that compels him to face his martial arts master, Acharya, as an enemy in his final battle with Duryodhan. Director Arnap Chaudhuri appropriates the Disney style and pays tribute to East Asian martial arts all while attempting to establish a Bollywood animation style?replete with beautiful Bollywood song and dance and the result is a significant evolutionary step in Indian animation.
