Program Note

Yeong-eun (Kwak Sun-young), a swimming instructor, lives alone with So-hyun, her 7-year-old daughter. So-hyun exhibits increasingly violent tendencies, which are spiraling out of control. 20 years later, new characters emerge: Min (Kwon Yu-ri) and Hae-yeong (Lee Sul), who deal with cases of solitary deaths and live together. They each harbor their own personal hell. In that damp hell, the presence of the mother is ever-present. The strength of Somebody lies in its multiple facets. It skillfully turns our focus into a character-searching game through bold developments, while also consistently posing heavy questions about family and motherhood. Director

KIM Yeo-jung

Kim Yeo-jung graduated from Musashino Art University in Japan with a degree in Film Studies and later earned a master′s degree from the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, at the Korea National University of Arts. She worked as a script supervisor for the feature film Love And… (2014) and as an assistant director for Our Body (2017). She then directed the short film My First Time (2019), which was screened at the Mise-en-scène Short Film Festival.

LEE Jung-chan

Lee Jung-chan graduated from Dankook University in 2012 with a degree in Visual Design. He worked in the directing team for the film The Yellow Sea (2010) and later directed short films such as Searching in the Dark (2012) and What Is Missing (2015). In 2018, he directed a brand film for “Bacardi.” In 2019, he directed a commercial for swimmer Park Tae-hwan for ARENA, expanding his work into the fields of advertising and brand films.
