After her father’s death, theater actor Nisay returns from New York to her home in Phnom Penh and runs into Thida. The film moves back and forth between the present, seven years since the two were lovers, and the past, when they shared the stage. As spectacular leading actors, Nisay and Thida found the perfect expression of love onstage, but in life they had to say a bittersweet farewell. By interweaving real-life self-expression with acting workshops on stage, Whisperings of the Moon meaningfully conveys the process of discovering one’s identity and communicating with the outside world. As the handheld camera and its unsteady movements mirror Nisay’s confused emotions, we find ourselves seeing life through her eyes. (HONG Soin)
