Program Note
The kitsch sensibility of this film contributes to its experimental spirit. This film, is about spectacle rather than narrative.Along these lines, the underwater photography is especially ambitious.
Young-Pae,nicknamed "Crocodile"lives under a bridge. He makes a living picking up suicide vimtim′s corpses from the water, hiding them, and them demanding money from the surviving families. One day he saves Hyung-Jung from the water. Hyung-Jung longs for her boyfriend Joon-ho but is unaware of his betrayal. She is taken care of by Eng-Bul and the old man Woo who live with Youg-Pae.Yong-Pae gradually develops feelings for Hyun-Jung and she in turn acknowledges them. But even after realizing her former lover′s deceit,it is too late for Young-Pae and Hyub-Jung. Crocodile is reminiscent of a painting, yet that doesn′t comensate for the lack of good storytelling.
