Program Note
Two men who went to the same school meet after a long time. They indulge in their memories of a woman and visit her. The woman was once the girlfriend of the older man and then dates the younger man after a break up with the first man. But her relationship with the younger man had also ended years ago. The woman has a one night stand with each of her old boyfriends, but nothing changes. The older man gets angry and leaves. The younger man meets another woman and wanders about the streets. Hong Sangsoo′s films are full of events, but in a sense, there are no events. The events recur again and again. The characters are caught in a closed circuit of time. As the story develops, it becomes more and more devoid of meaning, and the characters lose their originality. Nevertheless, the film itself creates a striking reality in each scene. In his fifth feature film, Hong Sangsoo continues to show his inimitable style, which destroys the conventional narrative structure and the ideology of humanism.
