Fiction is a self-described "existential adventure meandering through a landscape of remembrance, nostalgia, daydream and staggering reality." One day Rajat conceives a plan to kidnap a child while sorting through a heap of personal belongings. A mysterious stranger drops by leaving Rajat with a few old documents, court papers and a burnt childhood photo. The puzzling photograph mobilizes Rajat to carry on wiht his secret mission. He is joined by a taxi driver and a banner painter. This story of three sensitive men who have inexplicably turned into the kidnappers of a sick little boy is at times puzzling in terms of narrative direction, but the beautiful shots of the Bengali provinces provides a succession of moody and atmospheric scenes to enjoy. Malay Bhattacharya is obviously interested in more than just storytelling, as much of the film is meant to be read symbolically. Rajat′s own journey through the everyday maze of appearances and reality continue as he ruminates on the meaning of memory and identity. As if mesmerized by himself, he sees no escape form his adventures.
