Program Note
Solids by the Seashore marks the directorial debut of Patiparn Boontarig, who served as the assistant director for Manta Ray (2018) and Anatomy of Time (2021). Various artificial structures are being constructed to safeguard the eroding beach of a small village in southern Thailand. Fon, a visual artist, visits the area to inaugurate a new art exhibition. Shati, who guides her to the accommodation, begins to experience both curiosity and attraction towards Fon. However, as the two become closer, Shati, coming from a traditional background that prohibits same-sex relationships, grapples with internal conflict. Peculiar events from stories recounted by Shati’s grandmother during her childhood begin to unfold, blurring the boundary between reality and fantasy. Amidst the convergence of these distinct worlds, Shati discovers herself. (PARK Sungho)
