Born in Anshan, China, she graduated from the University of Hong Kong and studied at the London Film School. She began her career as an assistant to King Hu. She was jury member at Berlinale in 1996, Venice at 2003. Also she served as the jury president at Locarno in 2006 and Venice Orizzonti in 2013. Her major works include Boat People (1982), Song of the Exile (1990), Summer Snow (1996), Ordinary Heroes (1999), July Rhapsody (2002), The Way We Are (2008), A Simple Life (2011), and The Golden Era (2014). In 2020, she won the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Film Festival.

Miguel GOMES (Lisbon, 1972) is a Portuguese film director who has presented and been awarded at renowned international film festivals ever since his first feature.
The Face You Deserve (2004). His next features Our Beloved Month of August (2008) was invited to Cannes′ Director′s Fortnight, and Tabu (2012) was awarded the Silver Bear and the FIPRESCI Award. This was followed up by Arabian Nights trilogy (2015), which was invited to the Cannes′ Directors′ Fortnight, and The Tsugua Diaries (2021), co-directed with Maureen Fazendeiro and invited to Cannes′ Directors′ Fortnight, all achieving international success. This year, his 6th feature Grand Tour premiered at the Cannes Film Festival’s Competition section and won the Best Director Award.
Gomes is currently working on two projects - Savagery, based on a book by Brazilian author Euclides da Cunha, and Cantiga, based on a graphic novel by French illustrator Blexbolex.

Born in 1955, Kobe, Hyogo Prefecture. Began making 8mm films at university, and achieved his commercial feature film directorial debut in 1983 with Kandagawa Wars. Subsequently drew international attention with Cure (1997), and went on to deliver other noted works including License to Live (1998), Barren Illusion (1999), and Charisma (1999). Pulse (2000) was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize in the Un Certain Regard section of the 2001 Cannes Film Festival. Other films followed that received acclaim at home and abroad, such as Bright Future (2002), which was selected for competition at Cannes in 2003, Doppelganger (2002), Loft (2005), and Retribution (2006), which screened at that year’s Venice Film Festival. Tokyo Sonata (2008) won the Jury Prize in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section, and Best Film at the 2009 Asian Film Awards. WOWOW mini-series Penance (2011) accomplished an unusual feat for a television production when it was screened out of competition at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, and also traveled to many other festivals around the world. Recent works include Real (2013); Seventh Code (2013), which won Best Director at that year’s Rome Film Festival; Journey to the Shore (2014), winner of Best Director in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section and the 33rd Kawakita Award in 2015; Creepy (2016), an official selection of that year’s Berlin International Film Festival; and Daguerrotype (2016), Kurosawa’s first overseas production, made with a French cast and crew. In 2017, Before We Vanish was screened in Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section and in 2019, To the Ends of the Earth was screened as a closing film at Locarno Film Festival. His feature film Wife of a Spy won Silver Lion for Best Director at 2020 Venice Film Festival.
In 2024, his three latest films were released: CHIME, Serpent’s Path (2024), and Cloud. The short film CHIME was selected for the Berlinale Special, and Cloud was invited to the Venice Film Festival Out of Competition section.
