This year, APM 2023 garnered attention with the selection of 30 projects from 13 countries, including new projects by Asian filmmakers discovered by the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) and co-production projects between the Americas, Europe, and Asia. A total of 826 business meetings were conducted from Oct 7 (Sat) to Oct 10 (Tues), with 196 attendees from 140 companies participating, solidifying the production of prospective new projects. Additionally, two new awards—the New Horse Award and ONE COOL Award, sponsored by Dreama Pictures and One Cool Pictures, each committing 15,000 USD in cash—were introduced, bringing the total award categories to 11.
Of the 30 projects from 13 countries selected for APM 2023, Rafael Manuel’s Filipinana, a triple-crown winner, received the TAICCA Award, ArteKino International Award, and Kongchak Studio Award. Hirose Nanako’s What’s Love Got to Do with It? and Jiang Xiaoxuan’s To Kill a Mongolian Horse won 2 awards each, with the CJ ENM and ARRI Awards, and the VIPO and Sørfond Awards, respectively. The CJ ENM Award, a sponsor of APM projects since 2009, garnered attention for its selection of a Japanese project for the first time. Anticipation surrounds the future projects from Asian directors who showcased their well-made feature film projects at APM 2023.
