Her attentions toward him are not understood by anyone around her: Franck was responsible for the car accident that killed her son. But Franck responds to Camille until he realizes her attentions might be dangerous. Camille’s internalized anguish is difficult for everyone to comprehend, including Camille, and Catherine Deneuve’s performance as the grieving mother is mesmerizing and believable, always avoiding histrionics ? and is one of her strongest in years.
