Program Note
This second feature by LEE Young-jae is adapted from a Japanese novel. As in his previous film The Harmonium in My Memory, he visualizes the innocent emotion of a human in delicate sentiment. Ye-jun, Dong-hee, and Young-tan are curious 6th graders. One day, they decide to visit an old man who lives alone and is expected to die soon, to satisfy their curiosity about death. After some quibbles and misunderstandings, a friendship grows between the boys and the old man. The children spread cosmos seeds to commemorate him and he presents them with a show of firecrackers at the end of the summer. These scenes are those of eternal memory and beautiful moments of human relationships that transcend death. The film draws these moments of connections in quiet visuals.
