A thriller about a contract killer who wants to retire. Ben used to have a wife and son but ended up lonely after living for decades traversing the dark underworld. He wants to make a clean break, not just from his employer but also the sorrow he feels over the death of his son. And, he thinks, retirement can do just that. Morris, a young, hothead with big ambitions, joins him for his last assignment. Morris has been killing people since he was twelve years old and seems to feel no guilt about his crimes. Constantly bickering with each other, the tension between them increases until it reaches a boiling point. Young Pinoy director Ato Bautista has made a film faithful to thriller genre, casting Alvin Anson, the lead from his previous film the horror thriller Gemini (2014), as the main protagonist. Produced by master filmmaker Brillante Mendoza, it’s unsurprising that this film is able to charm audiences with its dark narrative and rhythmic editing. Would it be conceit or sympathy to be consoled watching the world of purgatory that is like a chain of agony biting each other. (PARK Sungho)
