One day 15 years earlier in Windholm Beach, the waters disappear in an unprecedented phenomenon. So do the children in the village, leaving traumatized parents behind. Their sorrows are all the worse since there is no evidence that the children drowned, and no bodies were found. In order to find a scientific explanation for this strange phenomenon, young physicist Micha decides to take a trip to Windholm to continue his independent studies. He arrives in town with ex-girlfriend and research partner Jana, and is able to heal his own frustrations there. The film is a feature debut filled with outstanding sense and ideas, combining a young generation’s sense of loss and hope with science fiction. The story of genius boy Matti crosses Micha’s story as they face an impenetrable wall. Micha sees in Matti his own childhood and loss, and realizes that he created his own fears. The film lacks fancy special effects, but still conveys well the sci-fi spirit, visually and thematically. The scene of Micha and Matti’s encounter and the powerful message of the finale leave behind resonant imagery.(RHEE Souewon)
