Program Note
This movie is made to honor the resistance fighters active when Hong Kong was occupied by Japan. The highlight of this movie is the comradeship among the guerrillas, spies and contact men. Without any words, they look at each other firmly and warmly. Without being armed by excessive slogans or overwhelmed by fear, they exchange warm glances though they belong to different groups. Such communion would make them protect each other, intensifying their passion for the struggle for independence more strongly. The sympathy and understanding Lan and her mother share is also very impressive. They worry about each other, try to support each other, and depend on each other, but they are also very independent. The movie was developed with an interviewee who has survived the struggle. After testifying to the history calmly, the old man driving a taxi gets back to work, as if nothing happened. His posterior view overwrapped with the backstreet of Hong Kong now touches our hearts. (CHAI Heesuk)
