Program Note
Imagine what might happen if, as a solution to overpopulation, Norwegian scientists discover how to shrink humans to five inches tall, and propose a 200-year global transition from big to small. Downsizing follows the adventures of Paul, an everyman from Omaha who, along with his wife Audrey, dreams of a better life. As the world faces an overpopulation crisis, scientists develop just that radical solution. People soon discover how much farther money goes in a smaller world, and with the promise of a lavish lifestyle beyond their wildest imaginations, Paul and Audrey decide to risk the controversial procedure and embark upon an adventure that will change their lives forever. Directed by renowned filmmaker Alexander Payne, Downsizing is another outstanding comedy-drama made in Payne’s own unique style.
