Jean-Pierre Dardenne was born in Engis, Belgium, and was a drama student. He founded Derives with his brother Luc in 1975. They have produced over 60 documentaries and features, and in 1994 founded Les Film du Fleuve. His filmography as co-director includes [The Promise] (1996), the Palme d’Or-winning [Rosetta] (1999), [The Son] (2002) and the Palme d’Or-winning [The Child] (2005).
