Based on true historical facts when, in October 1965, Indonesia, seven generals were assassinated. The government claimed that it was committed by communists and issued a harsh clamp down. The number of victims who were unfairly publicly executed, without any legitimate trial, numbered more than 500 thousand and some argue are more than 2 million. However this tragedy was never officially brought to public attention until president Suharto′s resignation. Through the filmic recreation of such deplorable human rights violations, filmmaker Garin Nugroho brings out the emotions and sentiments of the survivors.
