Program Note
Director Rezo Chkheidze, decided to restore the film in colors because it was originally projected a color film but could not afford to cover the expenses. <Father of a Soldier> was restored under the supervision of Director Chkheidze himself and thus, raised a new view of coloration for the monochrome classics, which has been shunned for a long while. In the film, Georgi, an ordinary famer in a small country town, hears that his son has been injured in a battle and decides to go to the front where his son is fighting as a soldier of the Soviet Union. The war film, as well as a road movie recorded a great commercial success then and honored with the best actor award in the Moscow International Film Festival. (CHO Young-jung)
