Program Note
An anime produced for the US and worldwide market with the help of an American screenwriter, a television series, and an international company. Vampire Hunter D introduces an anti-hero with a double identity, as borrowed from the television series The Spawn, in a futuristic setting, which enables unlimited imagination to roam free. Its main story is of dreadful yet erotic vampires. Vampire Hunter D is complete with the masterful Japanimation drawing style, creating new yet conventional and stimulating animated film. In the future, vampires rule the night and the entire world seem to regress to the dark times of the Middle Ages. The only options for survival that humans have are to either become a vampire hunter, living off of reward money, or to live in fear. Among the hunters, D, a hybrid of the vampire and human, is considered the finest. He is hired to challenge the immortal that kidnapped the beautiful young daughter of the wealthy lord of the manor in exchange for a reward of 20 million dollars. This film is based on the computer game. (Kang So-Won)
