Zhang Yimou is too young to be considered ′old′, but it seems as time passes he is becoming more interested in the ′precious traditions′ that are slowly disappearing. In The Road Home, he tells the story of ′pure love.′ Luo Yusheng who runs his own business in the city, returns to his hometown to attend his father′s funeral. His recollections of his father unravel the beautiful love story of his parents, and through this Luo Yusheng comes to understand why his mother insist on carrying his father′s casket on foot rather than by car. This film is truly a poem about love, with superb visuals and beautiful score. To Zhang Yimou, love is when a loved one loses a hairpin and you search it for days; it is waiting for a loved one in the middle of freezing winter and not feeling cold; it is happiness felt when a loved one eats the food you prepared; it is regarding a single rice bowl used by a loved one as precious, and it is considering the voice of a loved one the most beautiful sound on earth.
